The Worshipful Company of Glass Sellers of London

Get Involved

The purpose of a City of London Livery Company, as defined by the Court of Aldermen, is to “foster its profession, trade or craft”. This purpose is achieved through charitable works, fellowship, trade and commerce. Today, more than ever, building and maintaining professional and personal relationships is central to who we are.

We have a busy programme with both formal and informal events to give our members an opportunity to meet and connect with like-minded men and women. We encourage our members to bring family, friends and colleagues to all our events. Our emphasis is on interaction, information sharing and networking to reinforce relationships and better facilitate our Industry and Charity activities.

A large proportion of our members come from the wider glass industries: manufacturers of glass, ceramics, bottles, lenses, composites, medical glass, microchips; the Telecoms, Media and Technology sector; sectors which are major users of glass and organisations that provide services to the wider glass industries.

However, membership of the Worshipful Company of Glass Sellers of London is no longer restricted to those who trade in all forms of glass. Our members are men and women from a wide range of professional backgrounds. This diversity ensures a lively, active and friendly Company.

Categories of membership

Members generally fall into two categories: freemen and liverymen.

Liverymen are full members of the Company, entitled to attend all events, to serve on Company committees and to be elected to serve on the Court of Assistants.

There are three categories of Freemen:

  • Those who are waiting to become Liverymen.
  • Young Freemen – those who are at the early stage of their careers and aged between 21 and 35 and are considering becoming Liverymen at some point in the future.
  • Artisan Freemen – those who are, or have been actively engaged in the wider glass industry, as an artisan or craftsman, and choose on joining never to proceed to become Liverymen.

We encourage all members to become actively involved in the Company. There are a number of committees and teams which help the Livery to function and periodically need new members. So there is ample opportunity to get involved and share your skills and talents.
